Product Breakdown: Are we just like the rest of them?

Oils, balms and mists are not hard to find. You could easily browse the shelves of Sephora with a blindfold on and end up with multiples of all three. So, why would we create these products? Short answer, because these items are some of our personal favorites and the majority are filled with not so favorable ingredients. Believe it or not, companies don’t want you to be smart enough to figure out the truth behind the marketing. Don’t worry, we’re not going to start calling anybody out (yet). But, we are going to dive deep into the reasoning behind our first products.

Body and hair oils are having a moment right now, and we hope this moment doesn’t fade because we believe in the power of oils. We wanted to create an oil that was safe and effective for your body and hair. When formulating an oil based product there is an abundance of oils to choose from. Oils can be assessed on absorption rate, origin, color, benefits, nutrients, aroma, etc. And if you are choosing wisely, all of these categories and more should matter. An ideal body + hair oil will feed your skin with nutrients, smell amazing, and not leave you feeling greasy. The problem is, many oils are marketed to be something they are not. For example, a “rose hair and body oil” with a beautiful scent and light pink color makes you think that there is the all mighty rose oil in the product. Shockingly enough, there is not. This product example is actually made up of a very simple oil with little to no nutrients, with some perfume and dyes added to the mix. Bummer, I know. So, we created an oil that is filled with nutrients, vitamins and no synthetic perfume or dyes, the real deal. Think of Nocturne as the green juice for your skin and hair.

Ahh... lip balm, my best friend or, so I thought. I could express my love for a good lip balm for days and then some. Specifically, Vaseline, anybody else? Vaseline was a staple of my childhood into my early adult life. Why would it not be? Chapped lips, dry patches, sore spots, lady issues? There was Vaseline for that. Until I asked myself, what is petroleum jelly? Now I understand the meaning of, “ignorance is bliss.” However, I had to face the facts and so should you. By definition, petroleum jelly is a byproduct of the oil industry and the result of the distillation of a waxy petroleum material that forms on oil rigs. Ok, gross, not interested anymore. Sure, it may feel great temporarily on your lips, but it is serving you no good. Petroleum jelly is actually suffocating your skin when it is applied. The popular ingredient is a standalone product but also found in the majority of chapped sticks, lip glosses, lip masks and balms, along with a lot of other questionable ingredients. So, I ask you to put away the petroleum and grab Sempre. Our balm is natural, moisturizing, healing and environmentally friendly. We have perfected the Sempre formula to be creamy, soft and dynamic. So, leave one Sempre in your nightstand and throw another one in your bag.

Last but certainly not least, face mists, a fun product that is somewhat new to the skincare scene. What’s the deal? What’s the point? Is it vital? No, it's not vital, I am sure my skin would not crumble if I stopped using a face mist. But, I will not stop because I love my face mist for so many reasons. When people talk about self-care, I immediately picture myself getting an hour-long deep tissue massage and then misting myself. Face mists are everywhere now but the problem is that these ingredients are out of control. Like I said earlier, products are marketed as one thing but contain another. For example, a mist might be marketed as a “lavender face mist” with no trace of lavender, only a synthetic perfume and dye. Furthermore, these face sprays are filled with synthetic fillers that are doing more harm than good, especially if you have acne prone skin like me. So, we created Lieto, an uplifting mist that is filled with tropical ingredients that plumps, hydrates, soothes and sets the skin. This is an addition to your moisturizer, not the primary source of moisture for your skin. It wakes me up in the morning, sets my makeup, refreshes my face midday and seals the deal before my head hits the pillow. You cannot go wrong with giving yourself the gift of Lieto.
